The markings are clear and won't easily wear off. However, the ruler only has inches markings and there are no metric markings on it. Some users have reported that the ruler was not straight out of the box and had a slight bow that made measurements worthless. The ruler is also not useful when the light is shining on it. Overall, the 12" Architectural Scale Ruler is a solid product that is priced higher than other similar rulers. If you need a tool with both inches and metric measurements, this is not the ruler for you. But if you only need inches, it is a great choice.
