How does it work?
Answer: So far is a good salad spinner. You need to pull the retractable to spin. Works fine -

How many times should you pull the cord to get it to really wring lettuce?
Answer: It seemed I could have been pulling for longer than 10 minutes. Now I just rip the lettuce leaves apart, put a paper towel over one layer and do this 2-3 more times in a big tupperware bowl and let it sit overnight in the fridge. -

How do you retract the cord? I pulled it once and it’s not going back in.
Answer: I would say maybe it is broken. I honestly purchased this and only used it a couple times as it was not thorough in removing the water from the lettuce leaves. -

How do you clean the lid of tiny bits of lettuce etc. that somehow get stuck in? a major design defect...
Answer: I use the spray nozzle to clean lid. I can not say I have ever had food stuck in it. I always have clean and made sure it a clorox solution or vinegar solution. I almost wonder if you are getting food partial stuck in the lid that the lid may not be snapped into place tightly. Or it could be a defect on that unit itself.
